A two week celebration of our nation’s veterans with art, lectures, film, conversations, performances, exhibits and more!
November 7 – 21, 2014.
This 2-week recognition of Veterans Day will engage veterans and the public in a wide variety of presentations, performances, discussion, art, movies, and more. This is a unique opportunity for veterans to share their stories and perspectives and engage the public in the issues veterans encounter.
Exhibits: Women Marines Association and Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum
Lecture Series and Discussion Panels: Speakers and topics selected to provide insight into historical and current issues which impact the experience of those who have served, their families and their communities
Conversations: Informal sessions with veterans to hear their stories and capture their memories before they are gone forever. A story shared can influence future generations.
Film Series: War films have been made to lift morale, to help the public understand what fighting men and women experience, and to provide information. Films will be shown which reflect the best of the genre and veterans will share their views in talk back discussions
Performances: Drama, spoken word, music, and dance will be used to give voice to the veteran experiences.
Book Club: Like films, books provide information to the public to entertain and educate. We will provide a community reading and discussion event
Visual Art: An exhibit of veterans’ work will showcase their unique perspective, and will enable the public to appreciate the veteran as artist and gain greater insight into the context of the work.
About Veterans Day
In 1938 Armistice Day was declared as a holiday to honor the soldiers who died in World War I. November 11 was chosen because the war ended at 11AM on 11-11-18. In 1954, President Eisenhower signed a bill changing Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor soldiers who fight in all wars. Veterans Day is intended to thank living veterans for dedicated and loyal service to their country.

Coffee and Conversation
The Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum will be hosting Coffee and Conversation with guest speakers from 9–11 a.m. on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. The public is invited to hear veterans share their stories over coffee and light refreshments in an informal setting at the museum.
There will be an opportunity to watch short videos, learn about the broader context of the military conflict they were engaged in, and ask questions of the speaker and other veterans. Afterwards visitors can tour the museum or research the topics discussed in the museum’s library. The talks are free of charge.
